On the 16th October 2024, I had the opportunity to speak at the Just Eat Takeaway.com office in London as part of a panel dedicated to championing Black talent in the tech sector. It was a powerful gathering, bringing together voices committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in our industry.
During the panel, we discussed the unique challenges faced by Black professionals in tech and explored strategies to create more equitable opportunities. It was inspiring to hear from my fellow panelists and engage with an audience that is passionate about driving change. I was also able to share alot about the work we do at Black Girls in Tech.
During the discussion, we dove deep into the unique challenges that Black professionals experience at every stage of their career journey—from entry-level positions to leadership roles. We spoke about the visible and invisible hurdles, including the lack of access to networks and mentorship, the struggles with workplace culture, and the unconscious biases that often hinder career advancement. These issues are not new, but as we emphasized on the panel, they remain pervasive and require urgent, sustained action to address.
